About Us
BRIDGNORTH SPONSORED WALK
The Walk Committee
The Bridgnorth Sponsored Walk is organised by a small committee of (currently) 8 volunteers. We are independent of any other organisation and the sole purpose of the Committee is to plan, organise and stage the annual Walk.
The current committee membership is :-
Chairman - Derek Moorhouse
Treasurer - Peter Davison
Secretary - Barbara Atkinson
Other members - June Cowell, Owen Fisher, Phil Rutter, Roger Seedhouse, Ian Budd
We liaise with those bodies from whom authorisation is required in order to stage the Walk, i.e. Bridgnorth Town and District Councils, Shropshire County Council, West Mercia Police and Burwarton Estates.
Charity Status
We are not a registered charity. This enables us to help raise funds for organisations and projects which don’t have registered charity status, e.g. local sports clubs and one-off appeals for local projects requiring financial support.
Accountability
Formal accounts are drawn up and will be published. Rather than charge an entry fee, the costs of staging the Walk, e.g. stationery, posting, insurance, equipment etc. are deducted from the total amount of sponsorship money received.
We also deduct an amount to make donations for local causes, chosen by the Committee. Donations of £15 per person are made to charities of their choice on behalf of our many helpers.
The remainder is refunded to the Teams of walkers in the form of cheques made out to their respective charities. This is guaranteed to be at least 90% of the sponsor money that they paid in.
Helpers
The Walk is only possible because of the many people who help us out on the day. This includes Marshalls, Tellers, Police, First Aiders and other assorted helpers. We also rely on the facilities provided by Ditton Priors Village Hall, Bridgnorth Leisure Centre, Rutters Garage, the Bridgnorth Journal Office and St. Mary’s Church, Bridgnorth. In addition many residents along the Walk route provide essential facilities for the walkers and Marshalls.
If anyone is interested in assisting us either as a member of the organising committee or as a helper, please contact us at bridgnorthwalk@btinternet.com and we can supply more information.
Sponsors
Sponsorship is provided by a few local businesses, particularly:
The Bridgnorth Journal, in the form of free publicity and bulk printing services,
Rutters Garage, Salop Street, Bridgnorth, who provide essential operational and collection facilities for the Walk,
Baron Business Machines, Whitburn Street, Bridgnorth, who also provide bulk printing services,
Somerfields, who provide refreshments for the Junior Walk.
