WALK 2006

The Walk celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2006 and the Bridgnorth Journal presented commemorative medals to all walkers, organisers and helpers.  These were presented by the Rev. Walter Gould, who was responsible for organising the first Sponsored Walk, in 1967.

The growing success of recent years was continued, with several records being set for the number of walkers and amounts of money raised.

The total sponsorship raised was £115,000, a record to date.  This included £9,000 raised by the Junior Walk.  This does not include the unknown amount of Gift Aid which some charities will have claimed on behalf of sponsors.
The money was distributed to 129 local and national charities, organisations and local projects.

A record number of 98 teams took part.
In the Senior Walk, 998 walkers started and 951 completed the course.
Four members of the Brain Tumour UK Team completed the course twice, a total of 44 miles.
In the Junior Walk, 197 walkers started, all completing the course.
